A gisaeng named Cho Yeon promises to give herself to the man who finds her ring which she has thrown into a pond. Lord Min/Min Jang Hwi, is one of a number of men who have fallen in love with her, and tries to find the ring. In Seong is Lord Min’s friend.
A poor yangban (nobleman), he is well learned and is taking the bar exams. In Seong happens to save Cho Yeon who in despair has thrown herself into the pond. For his efforts, he is mistaken as someone who has taken advantage of her virtue & is beaten.
