From influential producer Hsu Li Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) comes the cross-strait co-production Great Wall My Love, a touching romantic drama loosely based on a true story from director Emily Liu (Woman Soup). The film stars popular actress Cherrie Ying (Virtual Recall) opposite Mainland actor Tong Dawei (The Flowers of War),
veteran actor Gou Feng, and Golden Bell Award-winning actress Ke Su Yun. Ying is Yang, a Taiwan girl who embarks on a road trip of some 2,000km through China in search of her late father’s (Gou Feng) long-lost first lover, falling in love with Mainland private eye Fang (Tong Dawei) in the process. The contrasting attitudes of the two generations mirror the complex relationships between China and Taiwan over the last few decades. An official selection of the 2011 Hawaii International Film Festival, Great Wall My Love took three years to film as the location moved from the bustling Taipei to the Mongolian grasslands via the Great Wall, Shanbei’s cave dwellings, Ningxia’s Hui Autonomous Region, and the Gobi Desert.
